If you’re into mules, try this Irish mule and rum mule!

What does mezcal taste like?

Because it’s made from roasted agave it has a natural smoky quality that, depending on the brand, can be upfront or soft.

How is mezcal different from tequila?

Since mezcal is a category of alcohol, tequila falls into this category. Think of it like how bourbon is a type of whiskey. Tequila is a type of mezcal. Both mezcal and tequila are made from the agave plant, however, tequila can only be made from a specific type, called the Blue Weber Agave. So if you’re drinking a spirit made from agave it’s a mezcal, and only if it’s made with Blue Weber Agave is it considered tequila. All mule recipes have the same basic ingredients: alcohol, ginger beer or ginger ale, and citrus juice like fresh lime juice. A Mezcal mule is no different! It’s so simple to make with just a handful of key ingredients. You can also jazz it up with garnishes, which we’ll talk about here:

If you want to keep it a no-frills kind of cocktail you can serve it in a glass with some ice cubes, stir it with a spoon, and call it delicious! Alternatively, if you like some flourishes, you can serve this mezcal mule in a traditional copper mug or cup or a stainless steel option. Both will keep the drink super cold and refreshing.
