Bananas are my go-to ingredient for smoothies because it’s a great way to add creaminess. Whether blended into my Creamy Banana Watermelon Smoothie or Peach Banana Smoothie, they never disappoint. But for those times when you want to switch it up or are simply out of bananas, try this Mango Avocado Smoothie! It’s a departure from the norm while maintaining the creaminess you love. Whether you kick off your day with this Avocado Mango Smoothie or serve it up as a nutritious snack (here are more quick and easy toddler snack ideas!), this smoothie has got you covered! With a handful of powerhouse ingredients, each sip will leave you feeling nourished and satisfied.

Ingredients

I am highlighting just the ones that need further explanation. The complete list is in the recipe card below.

Avocado – The avocado creates the best creamy texture as well as adding several nutrients without overpowering the flavor. Frozen Mango – Mango is the main source of tropical sweetness in this smoothie. Frozen is preferred, but is using fresh mango, you will want to add a handful of ice cubes to achieve the desired thickness and chilliness. Yogurt – My kids and I prefer plain Greek yogurt for its extra protein content and its subtle tanginess, you can use any yogurt that you would like.  Here are the best yogurts for babies and toddlers. Milk – Milk is highly versatile and can be easily swapped based on dietary preferences or restrictions. Whether you prefer cow’s milk, almond milk, coconut milk, or any other dairy-free milk alternative, you have the flexibility to choose what works best for you. Here are the best milks for toddlers. Spinach – While spinach is optional, it adds a boost of vitamins and minerals without being noticed. Vanilla Extract – Another optional ingredient, a splash will add depth of flavor.

Variations

Here are some delicious variations to try with this recipe:

Tropical Twist – Add a splash of coconut milk and a handful of pineapple chunks to give your smoothie an even bigger taste of the tropics. Citrus Burst – Squeeze in some fresh orange or lime juice for a zesty kick that complements the sweetness of the mango. Nutty Delight – Add a spoonful of almond butter, seed butter or a handful of nuts such as almonds or cashews. This adds a creamy texture and extra flavor depth.

Equipment

Using a high-speed blender makes ALL the difference when making smoothies. You will get a perfectly silky smooth drink every.single.time! I’ve had my Vitamix for 8+ years and there’s not a day when I don’t reach for it. I use it to make my blender muffins, dips/sauces, smoothies, pancakes…it’s hands down my number one workhorse. And this straw cup that comes with a lid is the perfect straw drinking cup for toddlers. It also comes with a silicone cover for grip and to prevent breakage. You can see all of our favorite toddler mealtime essentials here!

Storage

It is best to enjoy immediately. However, if you want to make in advance or have leftovers, refrigerate and enjoy within 1 day. The smoothie may separate, which is to be expected with all smoothies. Give it good shake before enjoying. You can also freeze in popsicle molds or ice cube tray. When ready to enjoy, add 5-6 frozen cubes into the blender with some milk or yogurt and blend it up!
