For more warm and delicious party dips, try our jalapeño hot cheese dip and our cheesy roasted garlic artichoke olive dip.
Cream cheese: We use regular cream cheese for that full flavor experience, but you can use light if you prefer. Parmesan cheese: Parmesan cheese adds a punch of bold cheesy flavor. Mayonnaise: Mayo makes this dip smooth and creamy. Garlic powder: Garlic powder takes the flavor up a delicious notch. Chili flakes: Dried chili flakes add a bit of heat and help enhance the other flavors. You can adjust the amount to your taste, or omit them completely. Artichoke hearts: Canned artichoke hearts are convenient, available year-round, and are mild in flavor. Just make sure they’re packed in water, not oil. Frozen spinach: We use frozen spinach but you can also use fresh spinach if you cook it first and squeeze out the excess water. Toasted baguette slices or hearty crackers: Or anything else you can think of, for serving.
To make a bread bowl, simply hollow out a round loaf of bread by slicing a ½ ” thick slice from the top. Scoop out the bread from the center, leaving a ¾” shell. Fill it with spinach artichoke dip before baking, and then serve it with the broken bread pieces on the side for dipping. Here’s how to prepare fresh spinach for dips:
Trim away any long or tough stems. Cook the spinach in a large non-stick pan, stirring occasionally until the spinach is fully wilted. Allow it to cool, then place it on a cutting board and chop it. Use your hands to squeeze out as much liquid as possible. Fluff it up (separate it) and now it’s ready to use in your recipe!
Add bacon: bacon adds delicious umami flavor and depth to any dish. Plus, who doesn’t love bacon? Simply add cooked bacon at the same time as the artichokes and spinach. Make it vegan: okay maybe bacon isn’t your thing but the good news is this dip is easy to make vegan. Simply swap the cream cheese, mayonnaise, and parmesan cheese for plant-based alternatives! Turn up the heat: if you love a little heat, try adding some sliced jalapeños for a spicy twist.
