If you love pineapple, also try our grilled Hawaiian chicken skewers, pineapple fried rice, or pineapple meatballs.
These Hawaiian hot dogs are topped with sweet and smoky grilled pineapple and drizzled with teriyaki mayo. We sprinkle cayenne pepper onto the pineapple, so they’re sweet, smoky, and spicy. It’s all tucked into a lightly toasted bun for a delicious handheld Hawaiian-inspired meal.
These hot dogs get bonus points because they can easily be made vegan and gluten-free, which makes them perfect for picnics and gatherings. With so many alternatives nowadays, simply swap with vegan mayo, a meatless hot dog, and a gluten-free bun. You could even use a romaine lettuce leaf for a grain-free/low-carb meal! These hot dogs don’t discriminate.
Pineapple – we like to use fresh, whole pineapple and slice it in big rounds for grilling. Cooking oil – any neutral cooking oil will do; we like avocado for its high smoke point. Cayenne pepper – optional, for that extra spicy punch. Hot dogs – your favorite all-beef or meatless hot dog. Hot dog buns – we use brioche hot dog buns but use your favorite or gluten-free if needed. Red onions, jalapeño peppers, cilantro – thinly sliced for serving.
We love to serve them with a crunchy salad like our bacon kale caesar salad, Asian salad with sesame ginger dressing, or honey garlic corn on the cob. Since half the fun of hot dogs is what you put on them, feel free to experiment with toppings and make them your own. Kids will love them, too. For gourmet hot dogs like these, we sometimes like to do a toppings bar so everyone gets to make their own! And for a summery dessert, try this amaretto peach cobbler or this chocolate blackberry crumble.
