Top tips for ground turkey pasta
This easy ground turkey recipe is straightforward enough to soon become a recipe you memorize and can recreate. Despite its ease, there are two main things you can keep in mind: There are a lot of reasons I love this creamy ground turkey pasta recipe, but here’s why it my go-to: I love cooking weeknight meals with lean ground turkey because it’s a healthier option that cooks quickly. You’ve also got to try my ground turkey stir fry and Thai turkey lettuce wraps. The creamy tomato sauce really brings everything together, and makes it taste a bit like mac and cheese. It’s great on its own topped with a bit of fresh basil and red pepper flakes, but I also like to serve it with a delicious salad, or a vegetable side dish like roasted broccoli, or garlic parmesan zucchini.
Cooking pasta: Personally, I love eating my pasta al dente, so it maintains some extra bite. Keep an eye on the cooking time, and use a fork to fish out a piece of pasta so you can try it and see how it’s coming along – remember to let it cool down first! Cream cheese: Cream cheese is one of my favorite ingredients in this recipe—it makes the sauce so luscious! Remember to cut it into smaller pieces to help it melt evenly and quickly. Take it out of the fridge and let it sit at room temperature for a while before you use it to help it soften.
Additional veggies: Feel free to add other quick cooking vegetables you have in your fridge like diced red bell peppers, zucchini, mushrooms, or cherry tomatoes. Greens: Add kale, arugula, or Swiss chard in place of, or in addition to the baby spinach. You can also add frozen peas or broccoli florets to boost the nutrition. Protein swap: This pasta dish also tastes great with ground chicken, Italian sausage, beef, or pork. If your meat is fatty, drain off the excess drippings before adding the rest of the ingredients. Fresh herbs: Sprinkle on some fresh parsley, rosemary, or thyme for a herbaceous note. Pasta swap: Try other pasta shapes like penne pasta, fusilli, macaroni, or rigatoni! Ground turkey pasta bake: Transfer it to a heat proof dish, then add a layer of cheese and let it bake until the cheese bubbles. Add panko breadcrumbs, then pop it back in the oven until they brown up for a satisfying crunchy topping. Pesto: Add a spoonful of pesto for a flavor twist.
