What is custard yogurt toast?
It’s a viral TikTok recipe that’s like French toast except rather than soaking bread in an egg mixture, you are spreading a simple custard yogurt on top. While the basic ingredients are bread, yogurt, and egg, there are endless ways to customize the toast to your mood and whatever you have on hand. It’s such a fun way to incorporate more variety and nutrition into your child’s breakfast (and yours!) or any meal in the day. Breakfast for dinner is always welcome at my house! And here are some ideas if you just want to toast the bread and top it, traditional style.
Ingredients
I am highlighting just the ones that need further explanation. The complete list is in the recipe card below.
Bread – While any bread will work, including sourdough, white, and whole grain, a soft and thick bread works best. I personally love brioche bread. Yogurt – I recommend using whole milk to give custard it’s signature creamy texture. You can use either regular or Greek yogurt. The latter will result in a creamier and tangier custard toast. Egg – while custard is traditionally made with just the yolk, you can use the whole egg for this. While it will no longer be custard, you can also use flax egg as a substitute for eggs. Sweetener – you don’t need a lot especially if intending to top with additional fruits. You can use honey, maple syrup, or date syrup for a no added sugar option. You can also leave it out completely and try some of the toppings as suggested below.

Swap plain yogurt for flavored yogurt, like this vanilla yogurt , strawberry yogurt, or blueberry yogurt Mix in peanut butter or any nut or seed butter Add mashed or pureed fruits – like raspberries and blueberries. I love using frozen fruits as they turn really soft once thawed. I just mash with the back of a fork. Add spices, like cinnamon and nutmeg for sweet toasts Lemon zest for brightness Vanilla extract Unsweetened cocoa powder

Tips for Success
What I like to do is divide the custard mixture into three and add different toppings to each as shown here. It doesn’t take much effort and it’s always fun to try them all with my kids. Line baking sheet with parchment paper or baking mat for easy removal and clean up Cook in a preheated air fryer – I always bake in the oven as I don’t own one but I’ve heard it works well – at 350°F for 5 minutes.
Storage
Transfer any leftover toasts to a airtight container and store in the refrigerator for up to 2 days. Reheat in the over or air fryer until warm and toasty.
