Have you made carrots with brown sugar before? It’s a total game-changer! Brown sugar brings out the carrots’ natural sweetness while adding a rich, caramelized flavor that perfectly balances their earthiness. The brown sugar leaves a glossy finish and slightly crispy texture. It’s perfect for cozy family dinners or festive entertaining over the holiday season.
How to make brown sugar carrots
With just 10 minutes of prep, you can make a side dish that will take the spotlight off the main! This is how it’s done: Finish it off with some buttered pecans for delicious nutty crunch, and minced parsley for freshness. The carrots are delicious without the pecans, but they truly do take recipe to the next level. If you don’t want to sauté them in butter, use chopped roasted pecans to add some crunch!
How to make brown sugar carrots on the stove
If you don’t want to turn the oven on, you can make a similar stovetop version. Grab a pan and add the carrots with some water, steaming them over medium heat for around 8-10 minutes, until they’re just tender. Once the water evaporates, add the other ingredients: butter, brown sugar, garlic, salt, pepper, and cinnamon. Stir to coat all the carrots, cooking them down until everything is caramelized and sticky. It won’t be exactly the same as roasting, but it’s still really delicious! You can also use baby carrots to make brown sugar baby carrots! They’re versatile enough to go with almost anything, but as they’re already a little sweet, it’s best to pair them with savory dishes. They’re great with my lemon butter roasted chicken, pork tenderloin, firecracker salmon, or pork rib stew.
