Easy Chocolate Avocado Pudding
Avocado in a pudding? With chocolate? Yes and yes! No, you will not taste the avocado, but it sure adds richness and creaminess that will make you do a happy dance. And what a wonderful way to make your and your child’s dessert or snack more filling and nutritious! If you have a picky eater or an underweight child, this is a great way to add more healthy fats into their diet, as well. You can also enjoy this as a quick breakfast along with some fruit and dry cereal. There’s also no added sugar in this recipe, but I promise you it will be plenty sweet, chocolate-y and everything you hope for in a chocolate pudding and more! Looking for more healthy chocolate-y recipes? Then you MUST try these chocolate banana pancakes, banana brownies, and chocolate zucchini muffins!
Ingredients
Ripe avocados – Be sure to use ones that are soft and green, not brown or stringy. Unsweetened cocoa powder – Unlike these chocolate zucchini muffins, you can use either natural or dutch-processed cocoa powder. Dates – Medjool dates work the best. They are larger, more moist, and sweeter than the other varieties. But any will work. Plain yogurt – you can use regular or Greek yogurt, which will result in a thicker pudding. I also recommend whole milk yogurt as it adds to the rich texture and because extra fat is great for optimal brain development in little ones. Pure vanilla extract – will add depth of flavor.

Step-by-Step Instructions
Tips for Success
Don’t forget to soak the dates first so it will blend easily with the rest of the ingredients. The first time you make this, soak an extra date and add after blending if you desire a sweeter pudding. Scrape down the sides of your food processor or blender as you go to achieve a smooth, creamy pudding. Depending on the cocoa powder used, as some tend to taste more bitter than others, you may need to add additional sweeteners, like more dates, honey, or maple syrup. You can even add some mashed sweet potatoes! If you desire a thinner pudding, add a splash of milk.
Toppings
You can enjoy as is or add any of these fun toppings:
Fresh raspberries – or other berries or favorite fruits Nuts or seeds – like walnuts, pecans, etc. Be sure to finely ground or chop depending on your child’s age Unsweetened coconut flakes A drizzle of peanut butter (or other nut or seed butter) Chocolate chips Finely grated carrots – this might sound super strange but if you are struggling to get your child to eat their veggies, give this a try! My toddler never seems to mind this addition and they actually blend in pretty well.
Equipment
You can use either a high-powered food blender or processor to make this simple chocolate pudding. You know how much I love my blender! I use it for everything – blender muffins, dips/sauces, smoothies, veggie nuggets, pancakes… So it is well worth the investment. I’ve had mine for 7+ years and it’s still going strong. Recently my husband got me this food processor for Christmas because I want to start making more bliss balls and energy bars for snacks. You can make them in a blender but it’s much easier with my new kitchen buddy :). So far I am LOVING it!
Storage
Transfer to an airtight container and store in the refrigerator for up to 4 days. Give it a good stir right before enjoying. You can also freeze for up to 1 month.
