I’ve been making these honey garlic chicken thighs for years, and it’s still the recipe that my family loves the most. The sauce is so good that you’ll want to lick your fingers, the plate, and the pan it was cooked on. It also comes together in only 45 minutes, and most of that time is spent staring at your oven, willing this mouthwatering honey garlic chicken to hurry up and cook faster.
Why you’ll love this baked honey garlic chicken
The sweet, garlicky sauce coats every bit of the chicken, so every bite is too good for words. My ‘secret’ trick of grating the garlic and onion dissolves them into the sauce, making the sauce 100x times better. Sticky, sticky, sticky … as honey garlic chicken should be. This is one of those healthy recipes that doesn’t seem like it should be. It tastes too delicious to be good for us.
Honey garlic chicken recipe ingredients
Chicken thighs -I love using bone-in, skin-on chicken thighs. If you’re not a fan of the skin, leave it on for cooking and then remove it before you add the sauce. Keeping it on while the chicken is in the oven will help protect the meat and keep it juicy. You can also use boneless thighs, but you’ll need to reduce the cooking time. Salt and pepper – For seasoning the chicken. Honey – I prefer runny honey for this recipe, but if you only have creamed honey, you can go ahead and use that. Coconut sugar or brown sugar – This adds a little extra malty flavor, which works so well in the sauce. Molasses – I add just a little for a hint of caramel flavor. It’s so good! Garlic – You can’t have honey garlic sauce without the garlic! Use the small holes on your grater or a microplane so it dissolves into the sauce. Onion – Just a little grated onion adds so much flavor. You’ll be amazed!

How to store baked honey garlic chicken
Honey garlic chicken thighs make great leftovers, so I often make extra to have for lunch the next day. To store leftover chicken, put it into an airtight container in your refrigerator for up to 4 days. I like to reheat it on the stovetop with some of the sauce and a small splash of water, but a microwave works well, too.
