For more hydrating fruit smoothies, try our pear smoothie, mango smoothie, or orange creamsicle smoothie. It’s a delicious and nutritious combination of apples, bananas, yogurt, nut butter, and warm spices all blended until smooth. And it’s the perfect kid-friendly breakfast on the go or after-school snack. Call it ‘nice cream’ and it can even pass as a yummy dessert! If you’ve ever wondered if you can put apples in smoothies, the answer is yes. This apple smoothie recipe is filled with simple, good-for-you ingredients and it’s easily made vegan, too.

Here’s everything you need:

Apples – any apple variety will work, so choose your favorite. Keep the peels on for maximum nutrition and fiber. Frozen banana – frozen bananas are the secret to a smoothie with a creamy texture. Before we freeze them, we let them get pretty spotty because the riper they are, the sweeter they are. Yogurt – we usually go for Greek yogurt because it’s thick and has a higher protein content. Plain or vanilla yogurt both taste great. Use a dairy-free yogurt if needed. Water – we use water to thin out the smoothie, but you can also use milk or a non-dairy milk alternative like almond milk or oat milk. Nut butter – peanut butter and almond butter are our top choices, but cashew butter, pumpkin seed butter, and tahini taste great, too! Vanilla extract – vanilla actually enhances the other flavors, while adding a subtle floral note. Pumpkin pie spice – we use our homemade pumpkin pie spice to add flavor, but you can use store-bought or your own mix of warm spices like cinnamon, ginger, or nutmeg.
